Week 1

The initial Search:

-Still in the search for a work experience placement, I re-did my CV and Covering Letter, tailoring it specifically for 3D modelling positions/areas of work.

-I applied to a variety of game companies within London, including: Headstrong Games, Sports Interactive, The Creative Assembly

-This was done either by an application form on the website for the role I wanted, or by a personalised email suggesting my interest in the company and what sort of role I would be looking for.

This is a copy of the introductory email I wrote here below:

Ref: Work Placement Enquiry
Hello to those at {insert name of game company here}.
My name is Leonita Gaspard and I am currently an undergraduate in my 3rd year at London Metropolitan University studying Games Modelling, Animation & Effects.
While putting aside the fact that am a video gamer at heart and have an great interest in the games industry and the artistic side of things, (with a focus on modelling and texturing), I am also greatly interested in the companies behind the shiny AA & AAA games that are produced.
Hoping that one day I can become a part of a hard-working, self-motivated game studio, I am simply looking in earnest for a work placement opportunity to help kick-start my venture into the video game industry.

While I am aware that this may not be a possibility due to various reasons, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask in case there were any opportunities for a person in my situation.

Thank you for your taken the time to read my application and I do wish you all the luck in your growth as a game studio.
Sincerely,
Leonita Gaspard
(a budding 3D Modeller and Texture Artist)

The aim here was to give some information about myself, my interests while also keeping it brief so that someone would be more likely to at least look over it.
And while this is a rough draft, in each email, after looking at each company's website, I tailored the email to them: mentioning either work they've done in the past that I've liked or projects they're working on that I'm looking forward too.
For instance, I knew in keeping up with current gaming news that The Creative Assembly was currently working on a AAA title in Alien: Isolation.
